A First In 10 Years: Ishan Kishan Achieves Unique IPL Feat
Sunrisers Hyderabad may be out of the IPL 2025 playoff race, but they made a strong statement by defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore by 42 runs in Match 65 of the season.
While the result doesn't alter SRH's campaign, it significantly impacted RCB's position on the points table and marked a special personal achievement for Ishan Kishan.
A Personal Milestone Achieved
Batting first, Sunrisers posted a formidable total of 231/6, thanks to a sensational knock from Ishan Kishan. The left-handed batter remained unbeaten on 94 off just 48 balls, smashing 7 fours and 5 sixes. Though he narrowly missed out on a century, his innings powered SRH to a match-winning total and earned him the Player of the Match award.
This recognition was particularly significant for Ishan, as it marked the first time in his 10-year IPL career that he has won two Player of the Match awards in a single season. His first came earlier this year when he scored a century against Rajasthan Royals in the tournament opener.
Chasing 232, RCB got off to a promising start with Phil Salt scoring 62 and Virat Kohli contributing 43 runs off 25 balls. However, once the top order was dismissed, the innings quickly unraveled. RCB were bowled out for 189 in 19.5 overs, falling well short of the target. SRH captain Pat Cummins led the bowling attack with figures of 3 for 28, while Ishan Malinga chipped in with 2 wickets.
While SRH's campaign may be over, this win hurt RCB's hopes of finishing in the top two and highlighted Ishan Kishan's growing impact in the season.
