Abhishek in Tokyo: World must unite against terrorism

TOKYO, May 24: All India Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, representing India’s all-party outreach mission to focus on the country’s decision to combat terrorism, on Saturday called upon world leaders to unite in fighting the ” wild handler” (Pakistan) of “rabid dogs” (terrorism).
Banerjee also referred to the Indian diaspora as the country’s greatest asset. “You live India, you breathe India and I want you to be the nation’s foremost proponent of the message in the global fight against terrorism,” he said, drawing applause during his interaction with the Indian community in Japan.
Banerjee said India wishes to present certain images to expose the true face of Pakistan to those residing outside India.
“You are our actual assets and global proponents. We urge you to raise awareness on this issue within your circles, through your networks, and via local influencers, in your own unique ways like using your digital platforms to actively disseminate these images and showcase how India is leading the global effort against terrorism by uniting nations,” Banerjee said.
He informed the diaspora that within 24 hours of the Pahalgam attack, a terrorist group known as TRF (The Resistance Front) had claimed responsibility.
In Pahalgam on April 22, the gunmen picked up people on the basis of their faith and gunned down 25 people and shot dead a pony owner, who wanted to save the tourists in Jammu and Kashmir.
“The TRF is a proxy organisation of Lashkar-e-Taiba, which is recognised as a UN-designated terrorist group. We are all aware of how Pakistan hastily attempted to dissociate Lashkar from the list. Moreover, after the air strikes, images in public domain showed senior Pakistan army officials attending the funerals of the terrorists killed in the strikes”, Banerjee said.
He asserted that the footage of the horrific attacks does not lie. “I believe every Indian has a role to play in engaging communities and spreading this message,” the Lok Sabha MP said. He said they were in Japan to convey the truth.
“India refuses to bow…We will not kneel before fear. We have learnt to respond in a language that they understand,” he said.
“I belong to a political party in the Opposition. It is well documented that I have stated Pakistan must be dealt with in a language it understands. If terrorism is a rabid dog, Pakistan is its wild handler. We must first unite the world to tackle this wild handler, else it will continue to breed more rabid dogs,”
he said. (UNI)
