Chitragupta Puja 2025: In Hinduism, there is mention of 33 deities, among whom Lord Chitragupta holds a significant place. He is considered the divine accountant of the gods and is also believed to maintain a record of human deeds. After death, he determines the appropriate punishment based on one’s actions.
Lord Chitragupta is regarded as the celestial record-keeper and the assistant of Yama, the god of death. According to mythology, Lord Chitragupta was born from the chitta (mind) of Lord Brahma.
Worshipping Lord Chitragupta is believed to enhance knowledge and intelligence, while also helping to remove ignorance and poverty. His worship is especially performed on the last day of the five-day Diwali festival, i.e., on Bhai Dooj, which holds great significance for the Kayastha community. Chitragupta Puja 2025 Date
In 2025, Chitragupta Puja will be observed on Thursday, 23 October, which also coincides with the festival of Bhai Dooj. The puja muhurat will begin at 1:13 PM and end at 3:28 PM, giving a total duration of 2 hours and 15 minutes for the puja.
On this day, people not only perform rituals but also engage in self-reflection and review their deeds. They take a pledge to follow the path of honesty. During Chitragupta Puja, items like pen, paper, and inkpot hold special significance, symbolising the importance of knowledge and record-keeping.
Chitragupta Puja Vidhi
- Begin the day by waking up early, taking a bath, and thoroughly cleaning the area around your home temple. Set up a platform in the puja space and install an idol or picture of Lord Chitragupta. While performing the rituals, ensure that you are facing the east direction.
- First, light a ghee lamp in front of the idol. Then prepare Panchamrit using curd, milk, ghee, sugar, and honey. Keep a Kalash filled with water nearby, with tulsi leaves in it. Offer turmeric, sandalwood, flowers, fruits, sweets, and other offerings to the Lord.
- After the offerings, recite the Chitragupta Katha and then perform aarti of Lord Chitragupta.
- An important part of this puja is the presence of a pen, diary, and blank paper. During the ritual, draw a Swastika on the blank paper using roli and ghee, and write the names of deities on a new page in the diary with the pen, symbolising knowledge, record-keeping, and honesty.
