Earlier in the year 2009, monsoon knocked in Kerala on May 23. Last year, monsoon entered on May 31, 2024. It reached on June 8 in 2023, May 29 in 2022, June 3 in 2021 and June 1 in 2020.
Rain alert in these states today
Today, on Saturday, Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Coastal Karnataka and South Interior Karnataka, Kerala are likely to receive extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places.
Heavy to very heavy rains and wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph are expected in Kerala, Coastal and South Interior Karnataka, Konkan and Goa for the next few days.
Light to moderate rains and thundershowers are expected in Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh for the next five days.
Rain is also predicted in Gujarat, Haryana and Rajasthan Chhattisgarh on 24th and 25th. Fishermen have also been advised not to go into the sea.
Heavy rains may occur in Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha till 26th May. Red alert has been declared with heavy rain warning in Uttara Kannada, Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Kodagu, Shivamogga and Chikmagalur of Karnataka and Goa till 25th May.
Know when will the monsoon reach which state?
After reaching Kerala, this time the southwest monsoon can knock in Madhya Pradesh from the eastern region on its scheduled time (15 June). Last year, the monsoon entered the state on 21 June with a delay of 6 days. However, the normal date of arrival of monsoon in the state is 15 June.
It takes about 10 to 12 days for the monsoon to reach Jharkhand from Kerala, so it is expected that the monsoon can knock in Jharkhand in the first week of June. It is estimated that the monsoon can also enter Chhattisgarh before 15 June. It is likely that after reaching Kerala, the monsoon reaches Jagdalpur on 13 June and Raipur on 16 June and Ambikapur on 21 June.
The monsoon is likely to reach Bihar between 13 and 15 June. Last year, the monsoon arrived five days late on June 20 and there was 20% less rainfall than normal. The monsoon is also expected to reach Uttar Pradesh between June 20 and 25.
