The actress whom we are talking about is none other than former actress-model Sangeeta Bijlani, who began her modeling journey at the age of 16. Later, she won the Miss India title in 1980 and went on to represent the country at the Miss Universe pageant held in South Korea that same year. Although she was awarded the Best National Costume but didn’t make it into the top 12 finalists.
Her acting debut came in 1988 with the film ‘Qatil,’ opposite Bollywood actor Aditya Pancholi. In 1989, she gained recognition with roles in two successful multi-starrer films, ‘Tridev and Hathyar.’ During the early ’90s, she featured in several films including ‘Paap Ki Kamaee’, ‘Gunahon Ka Devta,’ ‘Haatim Tai,’ and ‘Gunehgar Kaun.’ Meanwhile, these films did not create any wonders at the box office but Sangeeta’s impeccable acting skills earned her quite a reputation.
When Sangeeta Called Off her Marriage With Salman Khan
During her initial acting days, Sangeeta met Salman Khan in 1986 during the shoot of a television advertisement. After a while the two started dating each other for about eight years. During this period, Sangeeta decided to marry Salman Khan, but fate had some other plans for her. A month before their wedding ceremony, Sangeeta got to know about Salman’s alleged affair with Pakistani actress-model Somy Ali, and called off her wedding.
After breakup with Salman, Sangeeta began dating Indian cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin, whom she met during an ad shoot in the year 1985. At that point of time Azharuddin, who was then married to Naureen and had two sons, fell in love with her. Later, the veteran cricketer divorced his first wife in 1996 and married Sangeeta, who stepped away from acting after tying the knot with him. Their marriage ended in 2010, with reports suggesting that cricketer was having a rumored affair with badminton star Jwala Gutta.
