OpenAI to introduce AI device? Buys Apple designer’s startup for Rs 5559400000000, the device will be able to…

ChatGPT maker OpenAI is reportedly working on an AI device which would work like an AI assistant and connect to other smart devices like smartphones and wearables. The AI giant recently acquired the former Apple designer Jony Ive’s AI devices for $6.4 billion (around Rs 55,594 crore), and has been working with Ive to develop an AI device which is compact and user-friendly.

OpenAI founder Sam Altman revealed that his company is planning to produce around 1 billion units of the device. In a company meeting, Altman told OpenAI employees that the device could be “the biggest thing we have ever done”, as he believes that it will immensely boost the company’s value.

Jony Ive has described working with Altman similar to his experience with Apple co- founder Steve Jobs.

How will the AI device work?

Although details are scarce at the moment, the proposed AI device will likely work similar to an AI assistant, with the added ability to “sense and understand” its surrounding environment. The device will be small and compact and can be easily kept in a pocket.

Bothe Altman and Jony Ive have said that the device will not be like a smartphone or a wearable, but something which would enhance the AI abilities of these smart devices. The device can be connected to a laptop, smartphones, or any other smart device, and would work akin to an AI assistant.

The device will equipped with a camera and a microphone, enabling it to sense and see its surroundings, but it will not feature a display, instead the UI will be displayed on a dedicated app on the connected device, such as a smartphone or a laptop PC.

When will the device be launched?

While no definitive launch date has been announced, the company plans the first prototype of the device by the end of 2026. OpenAI founder Sam Altman said the company aims to sell more then 10 crore units of the device.
