BJP alleges political vendetta behind denotification of Sataun college

The BJP has criticised the Congress-led Himachal Pradesh government for denotifying a college sanctioned during the previous BJP regime in Sataun, Shillai constituency, and laying the foundation for a Rajiv Gandhi Day-Boarding School at the same site. The party has called the move a “clear example of opportunistic and anti-public governance.”

BJP state spokesperson and former MLA Baldev Tomar said that the previous Jai Ram Thakur government had announced the Atal Adarsh Shiksha Kendra in Sataun and had even released an initial installment of Rs 10 crore for its construction. However, after the change in government, the plan was allegedly sidelined despite budgetary provisions.

Tomar accused Industries Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan of intentionally stalling the college project to gain political mileage through the introduction of the day-boarding school. “Instead of completing the already approved college, the government is misleading the people by launching a new project in the same location,” he stated.

He clarified that the BJP was not against establishing new schools, but shutting down a functional college to replace it with a school is an “injustice to the youth” of the region. “If the minister truly cared for the area’s progress, he would have revived the college and chosen an alternate location for the school,” Tomar said.

The BJP spokesperson further alleged that the Congress government is systematically reversing the public welfare schemes of the previous government — whether it is Ayushman Bharat, Mukhyamantri Health Helpline or road inaugurations — only to claim credit through renamed versions.
