EAM, German Chancellor vow to elevate strategic ties
Germany’s new Chancellor Friedrich Merz expressed strong support for further deepening the increasingly multifaceted India-Germany partnership during a meeting with External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar.
According to a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs, Jaishankar called on the Chancellor and conveyed India’s appreciation for the German Government’s expression of solidarity and support in the fight against terrorism.
The ministerial visit took place within a month of the formation of the new federal government in Germany. Jaishankar conveyed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s greetings and best wishes to Chancellor Merz and the incoming German leadership.
Germany continues to be a strong advocate of deepening India-EU relations, including the swift conclusion of the proposed Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
During his visit, Jaishankar also held separate meetings with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy Katherina Reiche and Dr Günter Sautter, Foreign and Security Policy Adviser to the Chancellor. He also interacted with members of the German Parliament, foreign and security policy experts and the Indian community.
At his meeting with Foreign Minister Wadephul, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation in strategic areas such as defence, digital technologies, artificial intelligence, green and sustainable development and talent mobility.
The ministers also jointly launched the official logo marking the 25th anniversary of the India-Germany Strategic Partnership.
India
