Majithia questions AAP claim on war against drugs

Former Cabinet minister and senior Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia has questioned the Punjab government’s claims under “Yudh Nashe Virudh” campaign while sharing a video on his social media handle in which around four youths were found under the influence of drugs in the Maqboolpura locality falling in the Amritsar East constituency.

Maqboolpura is one of the worst affects areas in terms of drug abuse in the city.

Terming the ‘War against Drugs’ a drama and public relations exercise, he said the video presents the actual situation prevalent in the border state.

However, the police said that the veracity of the video could not be ascertained while adding that the city police have made huge recoveries and a large number of drug peddlers were already arrested.

Kamaljit Singh, Assistant Commissioner of Police, said in a video message late last evening that police teams had visited the area and interacted with the residents and respectable people of the area but no one confirmed such an instance.

In the video purported to be of street number 5 in Maqboolpura, a resident alleged that the area has become a favourite point for addicts to consume drugs while urging the Punjab government and the police to take immediate measures to stem the problem.

Earlier, Majithia had shared the video of a youth wearing a T-shirt with the slogan, ‘Yudh Nashe Virudh’, and he was under the influence of some drug. Nevertheless, the video was later found to be from Bathinda district.
