New Delhi. Four U-turns will be made on the Delhi Ring Road from Vidhan Sabha to Kingsway Camp to solve the problem of traffic jam on the approximately 3 km long stretch. Delhi Traffic Police and Public Works Department (PWD) have jointly decided to start the trial of this scheme soon. This part passes through Delhi University’s North Campus, Mall Road and Vishwavidyalaya Metro Station, where there is heavy crowd every day. It takes 30-40 minutes to cross this route during the peak hours of morning and evening. If one does not have to stop at the traffic signal, then this journey is of 7-8 minutes only. It is worth noting that similar signal-free schemes have been implemented at more than 60 intersections including Delhi’s Outer Ring Road, KNK Marg, Bhagwan Mahavir Marg and Vikas Marg, which has improved the traffic situation a lot.

At present, there is a signal every 375 meters on the Ring Road from Vidhan Sabha to Kingsway Camp, due to which passengers have to stop at eight traffic lights. The stopping time at signals ranges from 20 to 145 seconds, making the journey quite tiring. To solve this problem, a plan has been made to make the road from Khalsa College to Civil Lines signal-free.

According to a report in the Times of India, the NGO ‘Guru Hanuman Society of Bharat’, which works on road safety, inspected and surveyed this route and said that there are about 9 traffic signals in less than 3 km. Atul Ranjit, head of the organization, said that they have proposed to remove these signals and install U-turns at four strategic locations, which will improve traffic flow and save time spent on signals.

U-turns will be installed here

These U-turns will be installed between Gate No. 1 and 4 of Mall Apartment, Vishwavidyalaya Metro Station, Majnu Ka Tila Mor and Civil Lines Police Station. Along with this, it has been recommended to close the central verge at many places like Khalsa College and Mall Road. Traffic indicators like ‘U-turn ahead’, ‘Stay left’, ‘Stop and Go’ as well as cats eye, solar blinking studs, lane marking and spring posts will also be installed for road safety.
