Currently engaged in the IPL, Kohli is in Lucknow for Royal Challengers Bangalore's final league match against Lucknow Super Giants, scheduled for May 27. RCB Eyeing a Top-Two Finish in IPL 2025
While Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) don’t have complete control over their playoff fate, a win against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will keep their hopes alive for a top-two finish. With Punjab Kings already out of contention after a recent loss, RCB now hopes that Chennai Super Kings (CSK) can secure a win, giving RCB a better chance to break into the top two. A slip-up by either CSK or another top contender, combined with a strong RCB performance, could elevate them into the top two—a crucial advantage in the playoffs as it offers two opportunities to reach the final.
This season marks the 18th edition of the IPL, and fittingly, Virat Kohli, who wears jersey number 18, is determined to finally end RCB’s long wait for their maiden title. Currently placed third on the points table, RCB has just one league match remaining—against LSG. Virat has scored 548 runs in this season till now and with the form he has right now, the way to trophy looks clear. but with Tim David's injury and return of Josh Hazelwood has strung some equations in the squad.
Finishing in the top two is vital, as it grants a spot in Qualifier 1, where the winner advances directly to the final. Teams placed third and fourth face off in the Eliminator, with the loser getting knocked out and the winner playing the loser of Qualifier 1 for the second spot in the final. A loss in the last match could crush RCB’s dream of securing a top-two position.
