Pune Monsoon Woes: PMPML Bus Gets Stuck In Giant Pothole Near Warje, Exposes PMC’s Poor Road Readiness
A Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) bus got stuck in a large pothole near the Warje Malwadi bus stop on Sunday morning, once again drawing public attention to the Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) lack of preparedness for the monsoon season.
The incident occurred during peak hours, causing traffic disruption in the area. Passengers were safely evacuated and no injuries were reported, but the event has sparked fresh criticism of PMC’s road maintenance efforts.
According to eyewitnesses, the bus was navigating through the narrow lane near the bus stop when its wheel suddenly sank into a deep pothole, leaving it tilted and unable to move.
PMPML officials confirmed that the bus was later removed from the pothole. PMC authorities have been notified about the damaged stretch of road.
The incident comes amid increasing mishaps due to waterlogging and deteriorating road conditions across Pune as the city experiences pre-monsoon showers.
Recently, Pune city was lashed by heavy rains on Tuesday, plunging the city into chaos with incidents of waterlogging, power outages, and traffic congestion reported from different parts of the city. Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds swept the city, affecting areas including Shivaji Nagar, Baner, Kondhwa, Katraj, and Hadapsar. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued orange and yellow alerts for the city for the next 24 hours. Several incidents of waterlogging were reported from the city, with videos circulating on social media about waterlogging at the Purandar New Airport Terminal.
