Jalandhar police dismantled a drug smuggling network with the arrest of two key accused and the recovery of 13 kg of heroin, illegal firearms, luxury vehicles, and drug proceeds.

The operation, led by Commissioner of Police Dhanpreet Kaur, resulted in the arrest of Shivam Sodhi alias Shiva and Barinder Singh alias Babbu, both residents of Jalandhar.

The crackdown began on May 20 when the CIA team apprehended Shivam from near Pulli Focal Point and recovered 5 kg of heroin along with Rs 22,000 in suspected drug money.

According to officials, his interrogation during police remand led to further recovery of 7 kg of heroin and two vehicles linked to smuggling operations.

Based on Shivam’s disclosures, his associate Barinder Singh was arrested on May 22 from Amar Nagar, said officials.

From his possession, 1 kg of heroin, two illegal .32 bore pistols, six live cartridges, and three magazines were seized.

Three luxury vehicles used for drug transportation were also impounded, they added.

Police said both accused are repeat offenders. Shivam has three prior cases registered against him, while Barinder is facing four criminal cases.

Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur said additional arrests may follow as investigations continue.

Officials confirmed that detailed background checks and efforts to trace the wider network of the accused are underway.
