According to medical websites, "Lumbosciatica" is pain that radiates along the sciatic nerve, extending from the lower back to the leg. It is characterized by pain in the lumbar or lumbosacral spine, which radiates to the lower limb where the sciatic nerve is located. It can be caused by disc herniation, spinal stenosis, injury or inflammation. Symptoms of the condition include intense lower back pain, tingling, muscle weakness and difficulty walking.
The pain can be localized both posteriorly (gluteal region, posterior aspect of the thigh and leg) towards the sole of the foot, or radiate to the lateral part of the thigh and leg towards the back of the foot and the big toe.
Lumbosciatica pain caused by nerve compression (radicular pain) is often described as sharp, stabbing, relatively well defined, similar to an electric shock; there may be concomitant alterations in sensitivity such as tingling, numbness, reduction in the strength of some muscle groups of the leg, foot, thigh and consequent difficulties in walking.
