Property registration in 48 hours from today

The Punjab Government is all set to effect a major reform in the way property sale is registered in the state. The move aims at eliminating the scope of corruption in tehsil offices. Registration of sale deeds will now be processed within 48 hours of the submission of documents.

Called “Easy Registration”, the scheme will be launched in Mohali by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal on Monday.

Under the new initiative, one will have the freedom to select any office of Sub Registrar in the district, where the property to be registered, is located. Citizens can then decide to register the sale deeds at the office closest to their residence.

The residents will also have the option of doorstep collection of document for submission. The payment for the registration of sale deed will be allowed through Sewa Sahayaks.

Once the scheme is launched, citizens can complete the process of submitting documents, making payments and receiving pre-approval for their sale deed while sitting at their homes. That will be made possible via “Anywhere Registration” portal. This portal will also have a single online payment gateway to pay all fees, including stamp duty.

After the unsigned sale deed is submitted online for scrutiny by the Sub-Registrar Office, it will be sent for quick processing. Once the submitted documents are approved, citizens will have to visit the Sub Registrar’s office at a given time for getting the sale deed registered.
