Three Yamunanagar cops booked by ACB for demanding bribe
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has registered a case against three policemen, including an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), for allegedly demanding a bribe from a man in connection with a Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act case. The case has been registered at the Panchkula police station of the Bureau.
The accused policemen, who were posted at CIA-I in Yamunanagar, have been suspended by Yamunanagar Superintendent of Police Surinder Singh Bhoria following the registration of the case.
According to available information, Surjeet Kumar, a resident of Khadda Colony in Yamunanagar, was arrested by a team from Farakpur police station on April 9, 2025. Police recovered 9.09 grams of heroin (smack) from his possession. Another individual was later arrested in connection with the case.
Based on a complaint lodged by ASI Bhupinder, a case under Sections 27(a) and 21(b) of the NDPS Act, 1985 was registered against Surjeet Kumar and others at Farakpur police station.
Subsequently, three policemen allegedly began demanding a bribe from Mohammad Junaid, also a resident of Khadda Colony, claiming that Surjeet had named him as a co-accused in the drug case. The officers reportedly threatened to implicate him unless he paid up.
However, Junaid approached the Anti-Corruption Bureau in Panchkula instead of yielding to their demands. Acting on his complaint, an ACB team laid a trap in Yamunanagar last night to catch the accused red-handed. However, the policemen reportedly got wind of the operation and did not appear at the scene.
Sources said that Junaid’s statement was recorded before a duty magistrate in Jagadhri court today, as part of the ACB’s formal investigation.
SP Surinder Singh Bhoria confirmed the suspension. “All three policemen have been suspended for being absent from duty and in connection with the FIR registered against them at the ACB police station in Panchkula,” he said.
