Relocating motor market a priority for govt: Vikramaditya

Public Works, Urban Development Minister Vikramaditya Singh today said relocation of the motor market from Shimla was a priority for the state government to improve traffic management in the city. While inaugurating the newly-constructed office of the Beopar Mandal at Kachchi Ghati in Shimla, the minister said the site for the new motor market was identified at Malyana and the land transferred to the Transport Department.

The minister also announced plans to develop a parking facility in Kachchi Ghati. “Once land is identified, funds will be allocated for the construction of the parking facility which will help alleviate traffic congestion in the area,” he said.

Singh further said 24-hour high-pressure water supply scheme for Shimla was in its final stages. He said the scheme would benefit not only city’s residents, but also those living in Kachchi Ghati and the surrounding areas.

Beopar Mandal president Malkiyat Singh honoured the minister with a shawl, cap and memento. The event was attended by several officials, including Municipal Commissioner Bhupinder Kumar Attri, Joint Commissioner Bhuvan Sharma and other dignitaries.
