Jangra’s remarks personal, not party’s opinion, clarifies Khattar

Amid controversy surrounding BJP Rajya Sabha MP Ram Chander Jangra’s recent remarks on women and who lost their husband or family members in the Pahalgam terror attack in Kashmir on April 22, Union Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said the comments reflected personal opinion and should not be interpreted as the party’s stance.

Urging closure of the matter, the minister emphasised that Jangra had already issued a clarification and expressed regret for any hurt caused. In a day-long visit to his constituency, Khattar, while interacting with mediapersons, said, “Jangra expressed a sentiment, but it was presented in the wrong context. Making comments about women who have lost their husbands is not appropriate. It was indeed a mistake, and he has expressed regret. I too believe the issue should now be considered closed.”

Earlier, Khattar listened to PM Narendra Modi’a ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme with party leaders and workers at the party’s district office, Karna Kamal.

He shared insights from the broadcast, particularly by the PM’s address on ‘Operation Sindoor’ and the valour of Indian armed forces. “The PM reminded us that this is not just a military operation, but a reflection of New India’s rising strength and resolve,” he said.

He also expressed happiness over the PM mentioning Haryana during the ‘Mann Ki Baat’ broadcast. “It is a matter of pride. Just like any other state, Haryana holds a significant place in the nation’s development story,” he said.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to national security, economic growth, and inclusive development, assuring the public of continued progress under the leadership of PM Modi.

On being asked about the surge in COVID cases in Haryana, Khattar assured that the state and Union Governments are closely monitoring the situation. “Some cases have been reported. The Health Department is alert and precautionary measures are already in place. The issue was also raised during the recent NITI Aayog meeting. We are determined to prevent the situation from escalating,” he said.

Khattar also held a meeting of the party’s core group and discussed the political scenario and ongoing initiatives in the district. “We reviewed programmes such as the Tiranga Yatra, Sindoor Yatra. Discussions were held on how to push party activities further,” he said.

Highlighting India’s economic progress, Khattar said, “India has risen from the 10th to the 4th largest economy in the world, recently, surpassing Japan. Under PM Modi’s leadership, we are set to become the third largest economy by 2027 and a fully developed nation by 2047. The world today recognises India as a global leader.”

When asked about Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi’s visit to the families affected by Pahalgam attack and Pakistan’s attack, Khattar said, “It was a tragic and painful incident. There is no politics in visiting the families who have suffered. It is a human act and I believe it should be seen in that spirit.”

Later in the evening, Khattar chaired the valedictory function of the ‘Sansad Khel Pratiyogita’ (MP Sports Tournament) at Karna Stadium. The closing ceremony of thetournament, which began on May 5, was postponed due to the war-like situation between India and Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack. The final Kabaddi match was played between Mor Majra (Karnal) and Atta village (Panipat), with Mor Majra emerging victorious.
