Patti drug smuggler’s property razed

A three-storey building of infamous drug smuggler Chamkaur Singh alias Chamku was demolished in Ward No. 2 of Patti town on Sunday using JCB machines. The action was carried out on the instructions of the competent authorities, under the supervision of the Tehsildar acting as Duty Magistrate. SSP Abhimanyu Rana led the security arrangements during the drive.

The administration arranged for JCB machinery to bring down the construction. SSP Abhimanyu Rana stated that a total of nine criminal cases have been registered against Chamkaur Singh, seven of which are related to drug recoveries.

In addition, the district police, after obtaining proper authorisation, have already frozen another of Singh’s properties, a palatial residence. During the demolition, Singh’s brother and his family were present and witnessed the proceedings. Chamkaur Singh himself was absent, as he has been declared a Proclaimed Offender (PO). His wife and other family members have reportedly left the town for an unknown location.

SSP Rana said that this action should serve as a stern warning to those involved in drug trafficking, as those who ruin the lives of others through addiction have no right to live peacefully themselves.

He further said that, so far in 2025, the district police have frozen properties worth Rs 14 crore belonging to 28 drug smugglers. The SSP issued a strong warning, stating that strict action will be taken against anyone who continues to engage in drug trade.
