Insensitive remarks by Jhangra: Hooda questions silence of women commissions
Rohtak MP Deepender Hooda today lashed out at BJP Rajya Sabha MP Ramchandra Jangra for his controversial remarks on the Pahalgam terror attack, accusing him of dishonouring the martyrs and insulting their widows.
Addressing a press conference, Hooda asked why neither the National Commission for Women (NCW) nor the Haryana State Women’s Commission had taken cognisance of Jangra’s comments, which he described as “insensitive and disgraceful."
“The entire nation stands with the sisters and daughters whose ‘Sindoor’ was snatched by terrorists,” Hooda said.
“No political party should ever place its ideology above the country, but the BJP has consistently made irresponsible statements,” he added.
Hooda further recalled past instances where BJP leaders allegedly demeaned women and military personnel.
“Haryana’s daughter Himanshi Narwal was trolled. Colonel Sophia Qureshi was targeted. A BJP Deputy Chief Minister claimed that the Indian Army bows before a BJP leader. Even the Foreign Secretary was mocked — this is totally unacceptable,” he said.
Joining Hooda, Congress general secretary Sachin Pilot demanded that the Centre immediately convene a special session of Parliament to send a clear message that India is united against terrorism.
“The government should call a special session so the world knows that on terrorism, India speaks with one voice,” Pilot asserted.
Hooda also raised concerns over past statements by former US President Donald Trump, who allegedly said that India was pressured to declare a ceasefire for trade purposes.
“Trump repeated eight times that India was forced into a ceasefire. Shockingly, our government never denied it,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Haryana Congress organised a ‘Jai Hind Sabha’ in Chandigarh to express solidarity with the armed forces and families of the Pahalgam martyrs.
“We are proud of our Army. This Sabha is to thank and support our brave soldiers,” Hooda said.
