Congress launches anti-drug campaign, vows to rid Delhi of crime, addiction

Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) chief Devender Yadav launched an ambitious citywide campaign against drugs and rising crime on Sunday, accusing the BJP-led Government and the previous AAP regime of failing to address the escalating crisis. Titled ‘Nashe Ke Virudh Congress Ka Yudh’, the campaign began with a peace march in the Badli Assembly constituency.

Yadav, joined by a large number of Congress workers and local leaders, vowed to build a drug-free and crime-free Delhi. “We have taken a pledge to rid the city of intoxicants, illegal liquor and criminal activities that are destroying the future of our youth,” he said.

The march, under the slogan, ‘Aao Milkar Kare Shapath, Dilli Ko Banaye Nasha Mukt’, started from Nile Pehlwan Farmhouse and passed through Kalandar Colony, Bhalswa Dairy, Durga Chowk and Rajiv Nagar, culminating at the Bhalswa Dairy police station.

Citing alarming crime statistics, Yadav said Delhi witnessed six rapes, two murders, 18 chain snatchings and three dacoity cases daily. Between January and March 2025 alone, 107 murders, 168 attempted murders, 1,199 snatchings and 370 rapes were reported. “Despite spending Rs 12,000 crore annually on law enforcement, the crime graph continues to rise,” he said.

“This exposes the government’s apathy towards the drug crisis in the Capital,” Yadav charged. He announced that the Congress would carry the anti-drug campaign to all 258 blocks of the city, with memorandums to be submitted at every police station regarding the deteriorating law and order.

“The so-called ‘triple engine’ government of the BJP and its allies has failed to deliver safety. People live in constant fear. The Congress stands with them in their fight for a peaceful life,” he said.
