Delhi Govt’s weekly Jansunwai camps a hit, draw huge crowds
Reaffirming its commitment to transparency, accountability and citizen-centric governance, the Rekha Gupta-led Delhi Government has launched a robust public grievance redressal initiative through weekly Jansunwai (public hearing) camps, held every Saturday across the Capital’s revenue districts. These camps, designed to bring government to the people’s doorstep, are witnessing growing participation and swift grievance resolution.
CM Gupta, emphasising the government’s role as a public servant rather than a ruler, said the initiative reflected the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who advocated direct and ground-level communication between the government and citizens. “This is not just a grievance redressal programme; it is our commitment to listen to the people and find solutions. We will ensure every complaint is addressed in a time-bound and responsible manner,” she said.
The Jansunwai camps are being held in partnership with Cabinet ministers, MLAs, Municipal Councillors and officials from over 18 key departments, including the Delhi Jal Board, Municipal Corporation of Delhi, police, power discoms, Public Works Department and Health and Food & Civil Supplies departments. Camps are conducted not only at revenue offices but also at more accessible locations such as schools, community centres, chaupals and ‘baraat ghars’, ensuring broad outreach.
The initiative is yielding encouraging results. So far, more than 1,000 grievances have been registered, with many resolved on the spot. Unresolved complaints are being promptly forwarded to concerned departments for swift action. Key issues raised include water supply, sanitation, road maintenance, encroachment, law and order, street lighting and maintenance of parks.
The Jansunwai camp held on May 17 witnessed the participation of over 1,260 citizens, while the May 24 camp drew an even larger crowd of 1,350 people, highlighting the growing public trust in this model. The active involvement of senior citizens has been particularly noteworthy, deepening the bond between the community and the administration.
Gupta also announced that the existing public grievance portal was being upgraded to become more user-friendly. Citizens will soon be able to file complaints with ease, track their status online and offer feedback, making the system more transparent and efficient. In a directive to district officials, the CM has mandated the submission of action taken reports (ATRs) on all complaints received during these camps. She also warned that departments with recurring unresolved complaints would face strict action, reinforcing the government’s stance on administrative accountability.
