Solan MC bags top slot in Swachh Shehar ranking
The Solan Municipal Corporation has attained top slot in the Swachh Shehar-Samridh Shehar rankings in the state among eight municipal corporations. Dharamsala and Palampur bagged the second and third slots, respectively.
Evaluated on three key parameters such as the segregation of waste at source, conducting ward-specific samadhan shivirs and successful operation of citizen sewa online services, the Solan civic body illustrated commitment to maintaining cleanliness and emerged at the top.
Solan had topped the Phase-I of the campaign, too, under which the city was evaluated from February 10 to April 9. The subsequent and final phase took into consideration the three parameters till April 30 as well as the cumulative scores of both phases, said Ekta Kapta, Commissioner, Solan Municipal Corporation, who had personally monitored various aspects of the campaign.
The civic body, however, missed the top rank among the urban local bodies (ULBs) and stood second with a score of 91 points as against Sundernagar, which topped with 96.2 points. The ULBs that were ranked in this campaign comprised municipal corporations, nagar panchayats and municipal councils across the state.
While Solan scored an optimum score of 33 in conducting samadhan shivirs where the residents were given ready solutions to their problems, it lagged behind in the citizen sewa portal where it could barely score 24 points against 29 scored by Sundernagar. Its segregation of waste at source was again optimally rated with 34 points, thus reinforcing its commitment of making Solan a clean and prosperous city.
The samadhan shivirs played a crucial role by resolving various public service issues, including malfunctioning streetlights, garbage disposal, road sweeping, drain conditions, illegal parking, water supply issues, property tax disputes and public toilet facilities.
