Mumbai: Worli MLA Aaditya Thackeray Slams Govt Over Waterlogging On Metro Line 3 At Acharya Atre Chowk Station
Mumbai: Worli MLA Aaditya Thackeray came down heavily on the BJP-led dispensation after rains forced to suspend operations at the new Acharya Atre Chowk station, which is part of the recently inaugurated second phase of Metro 3 or Aqua line, on Monday.
The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC), which came under intense scrutiny, put the onus on sudden heavy rainfall. As a safety precaution, train services between Worli and Acharya Atre Chowk were temporarily suspended, it added.
Thackeray visited the station and criticised the government over “shoddy execution” of the project. When informed that the waterlogging was due to ongoing construction work, he questioned the decision to open the station in such haste.
According to MMRC, the waterlogging occurred at an under-construction entry/exit structure of the station located along Dr Annie Besant Road, Worli. “Due to the sudden and intense rainfall, water seepage was reported at the under-construction entry/exit structure of Acharya Atrey Chowk station.
The incident occurred when the RCC water-retaining wall constructed at entry/ exit collapsed due to a sudden ingress of water from an adjoining utility,” said an official statement. The agency clarified that the affected portion remains under construction and it is not accessible to commuters.
