Mumbai Weather: Netizens Drop Memes And Hilarious Reactions As City Sees No Heavy Rainfall On 'Red Alert' Day
Mumbai officially welcomed the monsoon on May 26, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a red alert for Tuesday morning. However, much to the amusement of residents, the anticipated downpour failed to materialise in most parts of the city.
While some areas experienced light drizzles earlier in the day, the 'red alert' largely proved to be a false alarm. Contrary to expectations, Mumbai saw relatively calm weather with little to no heavy rainfall.
Interestingly, the intensity of the monsoon on May 26 turned out to be far greater than the forecast the next day, delivering a stronger downpour and leaving waterlogged roads.
As the skies remained clearer than predicted on the red alert day, Mumbaikars took to social media to express their disbelief. Twitter (now X) was flooded with memes and witty reactions poking fun at the IMD's incorrect forecast.

"Arre woh IMD ka Mumbai ke red alert ka kya effect hua?" one user wrote, sarcastically questioning the real impact of the alert when the weather outside remained dry.
Another quipped, "Mumbai IMD has issued a red alert. Which means it will be a bright summer day," highlighting the irony.
A third user added, "Mumbai me jab jab alert aaya hai heavy rains ka, tab tab Mumbai sukha raha hai wo din. Just saying (Every time there's a heavy rain alert in Mumbai, the city ends up staying dry that day. Just saying)".
While the IMD’s predictions are generally reliable, this off-mark alert gave Mumbaikars a reason to laugh and share some light-hearted content.
Mumbai weather forecast
Following the arrival of monsoon, the IMD issued Red Alert for Mumbai until 8.30 am on May 27. The authorities urged people to not venture out unless necessary, predicting a heavy downpour.
