Traders complain of erratic power supply in Zirakpur

The traders are up in arms against the erratic power supply and pathetic condition of basic civic infrastructure in Zirakpur godown area.

Having invested heavily on their business establishments, the leading businessmen said the unscheduled power cuts stretching upto 24 hours, frequent tripping and voltage fluctuation has become a norm in the area.

The C&F Association and Zirakpur Business Association have raised the issue before the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and have sought immediate attention towards their sufferings and improvement in the basic civic infrastructure.

In a memorandum, the C&F Association and Zirakpur Business Association president Amit Jain has submitted that Zirakpur godown area houses the godowns/ warehouses of the majority of pharmaceutical and FMCG companies, both Indian and MNCs.

“Not only does it directly contribute to the state revenue through GST and MC levies but also contributes indirectly through employment generation and through the ancillary services like transport, couriers, construction, F&B etc,” he said.

The traders pointed out that as pharmaceutical products like critical medicines, vaccines, insulin, anti-cancer products are stored in these godowns.

“Electricity infrastructure in the Zirakpur godown area is so poor that even if there is a slight breeze, the cables snap and the electricity supply is disrupted. If unfortunately, this happens sometime after 6 or 7 PM, then nobody would attend it till the next morning,” they said, threatening to move out of the state in case their problems were not addressed forthwith.
