Misri on 3-day US visit from today
Amid the unease over US President Donald Trump repeatedly claiming to have brokered a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri is set to undertake a three-day visit to Washington DC.
The visit from May 27 to 29 will include discussions with senior US officials and is expected to cover wide spectrum that would include, defence, tariffs on bilateral trade, energy supplies.
The MEA said: “His visit aims to build on the momentum from PM Modi’s February 2025 trip to the US.” The focus would also be on advancing India-US multi-sector COMPACT (Catalysing Opportunities for Military Partnership, Accelerated Commerce & Technology) initiative.
Misri is expected to reiterate India’s stance that such matters are resolved bilaterally, without third-party involvement. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has said the same thing in the past few days on a trip to Europe.
