Fortnight on, one held for firing at Punjabi music producer’s house in Mohali
Nearly two weeks after unidentified persons fired nine gunshots at the house of Punjabi music producer Pushpinder Dhaliwal, aka Pinky Dhaliwal, in an alleged extortion bid, the police claimed to have arrested one of the two shooters from a village in Yamunanagar.
The suspect, identified as Ankit Rana, 21, a resident of Uncha Chandna in Yamunanagar, is reportedly part of the Kala Rana-Lawrence Bishnoi gang involved in extortion bids from inside the jail. Ankit was earlier booked in a snatching case. The other shooter is yet to be arrested.
The police said the two suspects had stolen a bike from Uttarakhand and fired gunshots at an immigration firm Flying Colours in Yamunanagar on May 15 afternoon before fleeing to Mohali on the bike.
SP (Investigation) Saurav Jindal said, “The suspects had done a recce of Dhaliwal’s house in Sector 71 before firing gunshots around 10 pm that day. The suspects had stuck a poster of Kala Rana gang outside Dhaliwal’s house before firing gunshots. However, the amount of money was not specified.”
Cops said Ankit had worked as a delivery boy in Zirakpur around two years ago and was familiar with the place, adding that Dhaliwal had got extortion threats from different gangsters in the past as well.
CIA Kharar incharge Harminder Singh said, “The suspect was produced in court, which sent him to seven-day police remand.”
On the statement of Dhaliwal’s son Gurkaran Dhaliwal, a case under Sections 125, 109, 308(4) and 351(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and relevant provisions of the Arms Act was registered at the Mataur police station.
