Canal breach causes power disruptions in Hisar

A breach in the Balsamand sub-branch canal, which occurred due to the felling of a tree during a storm on May 24, resulted in the flooding of nearby agricultural fields. It also left the 220-kV power substation near Raipur inundated, resulting in the disruption of power supply to nearby villages and urban areas of Hisar.

To drain out water from the substation, the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) has deployed two high-capacity pump sets near the Satrod Khas waterworks.

According to officials, the stagnant water is likely to be drained out of the power substation by tomorrow.

Power supply was disrupted in several areas, including Raipur, Shikarpur, Niyana, Khokha, Kharkari, Mirzapur and parts of Hisar town including the Police Lines, Industrial Area, and the Mill Gate area.

Simultaneously, the Irrigation Department has begun the restoration work on the damaged canal.

The breach was caused when a tree collapsed into the canal during the storm. The canal supplies raw water to the government waterworks for supply of potable water to Hisar town.

Irrigation Department Sub-divisional Officer Satvir Kuhar said the work of plugging the breach at the canal bed had begun, and would be completed by Wednesday evening. He said the flow of water at the canal was likely to be resumed after the repair work.
