Realtor charged with culpable homicide

The Ludhiana police on Sunday registered a case against a property dealer, Prem Singh Babbar, resident of Dhandra village, under culpable homicide charges. The case was filed based on a complaint by Raghubir Singh, whose brother Girdaur Singh had sold a land to Prem Singh at the rate of Rs 50 lakh per acre, totaling around Rs 4 crore.

According to Raghubir’s complaint, Prem paid only Rs 40 lakh in instalments and failed to pay the remaining amount despite repeated requests. The complainant alleged that Prem had also obtained signatures on blank papers from their father, Daljinder Singh, under the pretext of taking soil from the land, and later got the remaining land transferred to his name.

Raghubir Singh claimed that the non-payment of the due amount led to financial difficulties, which worsened his brother’s health condition. Despite his deteriorating health, proper medical treatment could not be provided due to lack of funds. Girdaur Singh was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Ludhiana but unfortunately he succumbed to his illness.

The police initiated an investigation in the matter and started further probe. According to SHO Avneet Kaur of the Sadar police station, the case was registered under culpable homicide charges and the accused was still at large.

The police are looking into allegations and would take appropriate action based on the evidence collected during the investigation.
