Govt offers free land for forensic sciences university in Panchkula

In a significant push to enhance forensic science education and create opportunities for the youth, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has offered free land in Panchkula for establishing both a temporary and permanent campus of the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU), Gandhinagar.

In a letter addressed to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Saini has requested expedited approval for the project. He pointed out that the Haryana Government had first made the request to the Union Home Ministry on November 15, 2022. Following this, the matter was forwarded to NFSU Gandhinagar, which constituted a committee to evaluate the proposal.

The committee inspected the proposed site in Panchkula and later submitted its report to the Union Home Ministry for consideration.

In his letter, Saini reiterated Haryana’s commitment to the project and emphasised the state’s willingness to provide the land free of cost. He underscored that the proposed university would not only strengthen forensic science education but also generate new career avenues for the youth of Haryana.

Commenting on the proposal, Sumita Misra, Additional Chief Secretary (Home), said, “The establishment of the National Forensic Sciences University will be a significant step for Haryana’s students, especially in the context of the new criminal laws — Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). This institution will provide students with education in modern forensic techniques and judicial sciences, enabling them to contribute effectively to law enforcement and judicial processes.”
