Sidhu Moosewala’s father Balkaur Singh announces to contest 2027 Assembly elections

Ahead of renowned Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala’s third death anniversary, his father Balkaur Singh has announced to contest the 2027 state Assembly elections from the Mansa constituency.

He said he would contest to seek justice for his son by staying in the system only.

Balkaur also expressed his dissatisfaction with the state’s governance under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, particularly “the lack of action against gangsters”.

He raised serious concerns over the status of Goldy Brar, the alleged mastermind behind Moosewala’s killing, pointing out that despite promises of his arrest by the government, Goldy remains at large.

Balkaur Singh said his entry into politics would focus on seeking justice, restoring public safety and raising his voice for people who were being silenced.

It may be recalled that Sidhu Moosewala had also contested on the Congress ticket from the Mansa Assembly seat in the 2022 Assembly poll and had lost it by a huge margin amidst the AAP wave.

Three years have passed since Moosewala was brutally shot dead at Jawarhke village in Mansa while he was driving his Thar on May 29, 2022.

On his third anniversary, a “path” has been organised at his cremation spot in Musa village, where his fans in large numbers are expected to come. His statue installed at the cremation spot has been given a new look and arrangements are in place as tents have been installed for tomorrow’s anniversary event.

Meanwhile, in a recent setback, retired SHO Angrej Singh, a crucial witness and the first investigating officer in the case, passed away on May 24, 2025, after a prolonged illness. Singh was scheduled to testify in court, but had cited medical concerns for missing a hearing on May 23.

The special investigation team (SIT) has filed five chargesheets against 32 accused individuals, including gangsters Lawrence Bishnoi,

Goldy Brar and Jaggu Bhagwanpuria.

The prosecution alleges that Moosewala’s murder was part of a series of revenge killings between the Bishnoi and Bambiha gangs.

In May 2024, the Mansa Sessions Court framed charges against 27 arrested accused, including Bishnoi, under various Sections, including

murder. However, the prime accused, Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar,

remains at large, and charges have not been framed against him. In the court, two eyewitnesses Gurwinder and Gurpreet, who were travelling with Moosewala when he has shot dead, had given testimony in the court and had identified four shooters – Priyavart Fauji, Ankit Sersa, Deepak Mundi and Kashish, alias Kuldeep. Gurwinder confirmed that the four had opened fire on Moose Wala along with Jagroop Singh, alias Roopa, and Manpreet Singh, alias Mannu Kussa, who were killed in a police encounter in 2022.

Gurwinder also identified the accused Sandeep Kekra, who had allegedly

provided real-time information to gangster Goldy Brar about Moosewala’s movement on the day of the murder. Sandeep allegedly took

selfies with Moosewala outside his house and left on a bike soon after the singer left.

Moosewala’s father Balkaur Singh has been called to give his testimony in the court on June 4. A senior police official said the case might now become weaker. This is because the original investigating officer had key knowledge of the case. He was involved in the case from the start and knew facts first-hand.

A new officer will now need to study the case from the beginning.

However, it is difficult to recreate what the original officer witnessed during the investigation. This may affect how strongly the case is presented in court.
