IndiGo To Launch Direct Flights To 10 New International Destinations In FY25; Details Here
IndiGo, India’s largest airline by market share, is set to expand its global footprint significantly by launching direct flights to 10 new international destinations in the current financial year, including key cities like London and Athens, according to CEO Pieter Elbers.
Speaking at a press briefing in New Delhi on Friday, Elbers stressed the growing potential of the Indian aviation market, driven by surging travel demand and rapid infrastructure development. He noted that India's strategic location presents a compelling opportunity to establish the country as a major international aviation hub, according to a PTI report.
Among the upcoming international additions to IndiGo’s network are Amsterdam (Netherlands), Manchester (UK), Copenhagen (Denmark), Siem Reap (Cambodia), and four destinations in Central Asia, which are expected to be announced in the coming days.
Beginning in July, the airline will launch direct flights from Mumbai to Manchester and Amsterdam using Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, leased specifically for these routes. The Manchester service will mark IndiGo’s official entry into the long-haul international segment, a significant milestone for the low-cost carrier traditionally known for short- and medium-haul operations.

Majority Of Country's Air Traffic
Elbers pointed out that while Indian carriers currently handle 45 per cent of the country’s international air traffic, the majority, 55 per cent, is still managed by foreign airlines, underlining the untapped growth potential for domestic players.
IndiGo, which now operates over 2,300 daily flights with a fleet exceeding 430 aircraft, connects more than 90 domestic and 40 international destinations. With annual revenues surpassing $10 billion, the airline is rapidly evolving from a regional leader into a global competitor.
Elbers also highlighted IndiGo’s diversity efforts, noting that 15 per cent of its pilots are women, the highest proportion among Indian carriers.
In another development, IndiGo will host the 81st Annual General Meeting of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) in New Delhi this June. The event returns to India after 42 years, further underscoring the country’s growing prominence in global aviation.
