Pune: Union MoS Murlidhar Mohol’s Hadapsar Heliport Plan Gets Lukewarm Response From Punekars
Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol recently announced that Maharashtra is expected to see its first Airports Authority of India (AAI)-operated heliport at the Hadapsar Gliding Centre soon. However, this news brought mixed reactions from the citizens. Some cited this as an eyewash, while others praised the move, saying it will hasten the development of the area.
Deepak Wadkar, a social activist, said, "What's the point of building the heliport if there's no good road network? People here are left to struggle. The politicians just want to make money in the name of such plans. The road network should be improved."
Madhu Chandra, a homemaker and a resident of Hadapsar, said, "We shifted to this area a few years back because we were told by our builders that in the future this area will develop. And with the announcement of the heliport, the demand is definitely going to increase, and it will become a destination for all. So I welcome this project with wholeheartedness."
Ajinkya Patil, an IT professional, said, "This project is no doubt good. It will be the first heliport in the whole of Maharashtra—it's a big deal. Approving new plans is required with the changing times and demands, but still, the basic infrastructure should also be there and in good, workable condition. No matter how much technology you bring up, if the roads are not safe and basic amenities remain scarce, it won't work that way, and we cannot call it development. While adapting to new changes and bringing in new facilities, the other things should be well placed."
Kavita Joshi, a teacher, added, "This is nonsense. They think they can fool the public by diverting the subject. First, do what is really needed. What's the point of spending a huge amount on constructing the heliport and depriving people of water, good roads, electricity, and better connectivity? Why don't they get the other projects approved, like constructing footpaths? And why don't they do something about garbage disposal? This heliport is just an eyewash to attract votes. The project is not intended in the public interest."
