IPL 2025: Vijay Mallya’s RCB post on X backfires as netizens revive ‘Return to India’ chant
Vijay Mallya put up a post on X, congratulating the RCB for its win against the PBKS
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) kept the hopes of their fans alive with a commanding eight-wicket win over Punjab Kings last night in the Qualifier 1 of the IPL 2025, in Mullanpur.
The Bengaluru bowlers, led by Suyash Sharma (3/17) and Josh Hazlewood (3/21), bowled out the Punjab batters for just 101, and the RCB chased it down in 10 overs, with Phil Salt remaining unbeaten on 56 off 27 balls.
The fans were naturally excited, as it was RCB’s first final appearance since 2016. Former team owner Vijay Mallya, too, could not contain his excitement.
Mallya, who has been living in the UK since 2016, is wanted for financial fraud and loan default cases in India. He put up a post on X, congratulating the RCB for its achievement.
However, the post went viral for the wrong reason. Netizens quickly latched on to the post, urging Mallya to return to India and face legal action. People used the ‘Ghar Aaja Pardesi’ phrase to take a dig at the businessman, along with memes, jokes, and sarcastic comments.
One user said, "RCB made a comeback, now it’s your turn." Another said, "Every time you tweet, a lawyer in India sighs..".
This is not the first time that Mallya's tweets about the RCB have drawn such a reaction. Earlier this season, when the RCB won against the Lucknow Super Giants, his post met with a similar fate.
The Bengaluru franchise are yet to win the IPL title, and their entry into the final in style, has again brought to life the chants of "Ee Sala Cup Namde (The cup is ours this year)".
