Leaders of the banned Pakistani terrorist outfit Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) has claimed to have played a key role in the student-led protest that led to the ouster of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in August 2024, according to reports.

JuD is infamous for its involvement in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, masterminded by its chief Hafiz Saeed. Taking an aim at the Indian government, Muzammil Hashmi recently said, “We defeated you in Bangladesh last year,” reports PTI.

The interim Bangladeshi government headed by Muhammad Yunus has charged Hasina with “crimes against humanity” over crackdown on student-led protests in the country last year.

Saifullah Kasuri, another JuD terrorist, recently said that they took revenge for 1971 in May. Recalling the Bangladesh Liberation war, he said, “The then Indian prime minister Indira Gandhi had declared that she'd drowned the two-nation theory in Khaleej (Bay of Bengal). On May 10, l... we have taken the revenge of 1971.”

Kasuri, who is part of JuD coordination committee, was the mastermind behind the deadly Pahalgam attack that killed 26 innocent civilians on April 22. “We are preparing the next generation for jihad...We are not afraid of dying,” he added.

Listed 32nd in India's most wanted list, the terrorist was recently seen sharing stage with Punjab assembly speaker Malik Ahmad Khan and Talha Saeed, the son of Hafiz Saeed. Kasuri allegedly coordinated with Lashkar-e-Taiba proxy The Resistance Front to carry out the attack in Pahalgam.

Earlier, he claimed that Indian media "wrongfully" blamed him and Pakistan for the Pahalgam shocker. "India created drama as they were themselves behind the attack," he said.
