Rohit Sharma's Two IPL Records That Set Him Apart
Mumbai Indians have advanced to Qualifier-2 of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, and a big reason behind that is the stellar form of their veteran opener, Rohit Sharma.
The 38-year-old proved once again why he's called the 'Hitman' with a brilliant knock against Gujarat Titans in the Eliminator. Not only did he help MI post a huge total, but he also created two major IPL records that will be tough for others to break.
7000 IPL Runs - Second Only to Kohli
In the high-pressure Eliminator held in Mullanpur on May 30, MI batted first and piled up 228 runs. Rohit played a sensational innings of 81 runs off 50 balls, hitting 9 fours and 4 sixes. During this knock, he reached 7,000 IPL runs, becoming just the second player after Virat Kohli to do so. He now has 7,038 runs in 271 IPL matches.

300 Sixes Club - Only Behind Chris Gayle
Along with his 7k milestone, Rohit also became the second player to hit 300 sixes in IPL history.
He now has 302 sixes, putting him behind only Chris Gayle (357). Virat Kohli is third with 291 sixes. Given Rohit's consistency and aggression, this record might continue to grow.
All Eyes on Qualifier-2 vs Punjab Kings
Mumbai will now face Punjab Kings in Qualifier-2 on June 1 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. A win will take them to the final against Royal Challengers Bangalore. As always, MI will be banking on Rohit's experience and firepower to guide them through.

MI vs PBKS - Head-to-Head
Since 2022, Punjab have edged out Mumbai Indians, winning 3 of their last 5 encounters. However, in the overall head-to-head tally, Mumbai still hold a slight advantage, leading 17-16 after 33 matches.
In terms of Qualifier 2 experience, MI have been here four times, winning two and losing two. Punjab Kings, meanwhile, have featured in Qualifier 2 only once - back in 2014, when they defeated Chennai by 24 runs to reach their maiden IPL final.
