Mamata Banerjee opposing Operation Sindoor to appease Muslim vote bank: Amit Shah

In a blistering attack on Mamata Banerjee, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday accused the West Bengal chief minister of opposing India’s Operation Sindoor to appease the Muslim vote bank.

Shah, who is on a two-day visit to the state, was addressing BJP leaders and workers in Kolkata.

“To appease the Muslim vote bank, Mamata didi opposed Operation Sindoor. By doing so, she is insulting the mothers and sisters of this country. In 2026 (assembly polls), the mothers and sisters of the state would teach the CM and the Trinamool Congress a lesson for criticising Operation Sindoor,” he said.

Shah’s stinging attack on the Trinamool Congress supremo came after she accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP of exploiting India’s military strikes on Pakistan-based terror hubs for political gains.

“Under Operation Sindoor, we went 100km (inside Pakistan) and destroyed their headquarters. Hundreds of terrorists were killed, and this hurts Didi's stomach. She gave a political speech against Operation Sindoor. She also played with the emotions of crores of women in the country. The sisters and mothers of West Bengal should teach Mamata Banerjee the value of Sindoor in the upcoming elections," said Shah.

He further targeted Banerjee over alleged infiltration from Bangladesh and said the upcoming elections of West Bengal will not only decide the future of the state, but it is also associated with national security.

"Mamata Banerjee has opened the nation's borders for Bangladeshis. She is allowing infiltration. Mamata Banerjee cannot stop infiltration; only a Lotus government can do that," he said, accusing the state government of not providing land at the border to create the fence.

In another allegation, the Union home minister claimed that the recent riots in Murshidabad were state-sponsored and several TMC workers were involved in the violence.

“The MHA kept on insisting about the deployment of BSF during the Murshidabad riots, but the TMC government didn't allow it to happen so that the violence could continue,” he said.

Shah also alleged that the chief minister was opposing the Waqf Amendment Act for appeasement politics.
