Pakistan’s Nuclear Arsenal

Sir,
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s call for placing Pakistan’s nuclear weapons under IAEA supervision is a timely and responsible proposal. Given Pakistan’s history of political instability, military dominance, and open support for terrorism, the risk of nuclear proliferation or misuse is dangerously real.
Unlike India’s transparent nuclear doctrine, Pakistan’s ambiguous posture, coupled with veiled nuclear threats and its past proliferation record via A.Q. Khan, poses a grave threat to global security. The international community must treat this not as an India-Pakistan issue but as a global non-proliferation concern.
IAEA oversight would ensure greater accountability and reduce the risk of nuclear weapons falling into the wrong hands. It is time the UN, NSG, and major powers acknowledge this threat and act before a crisis forces them to. Nuclear security cannot be left to chance-international vigilance is the only path to lasting peace.
