North-East Weather News: Orange Alert Issued In Seven-Sister States; Heavy To Very Heavy Rainfall Anticipated For Next 24 Hours

Northeast India has experienced severe rains, with the states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Tripura, Meghalaya, and Sikkim suffering from flooding and landslides. Because of the intense rainfall over the last four days, there have been floods and landslides in several areas here.

The water level has increased in various areas of Assam, impacting approximately four lakh individuals across 15 districts. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issues 'Orange Alert' in the North-Eastern states of India, including Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Tripura, Manipur and Meghalaya.

In the next 24 hours, moderate to heavy rainfall is anticipated across nearly all areas of the state, with certain locations experiencing heavy to very heavy rainfall and isolated areas facing heavy rainfall. Precipitation expected in the upcoming 24 hours.

The flood situation in Assam worsened on Monday, with rising water levels and predictions of more rainfall. The Regional Meteorological Centre indicated moderate to heavy rainfall across the state, while the Northeast flood death toll reached 38, including 11 in Assam.

Approximately 5.15 lakh people are affected, with 12,610 hectares of farmland submerged, and over 1.85 lakh seeking shelter. Key affected districts are Lakhimpur, Cachar, and Hailakandi, with CM Sarma visiting to assure support for victims. Relief materials distributed included rice, dal, salt, and mustard oil as the government commits to aid and rehabilitation efforts.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah contacted CM Sarma to assess the situation and offered assistance amid ongoing rescue efforts from multiple agencies. The Indian Air Force rescued 14 people near the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border.

In Manipur, about 20,000 individuals were affected by flooding, with significant damage in the Imphal Valley and 31 relief camps established. Schools in the affected areas have extended summer vacations. Meanwhile, in Arunachal Pradesh, a landslide killed seven family members. Nagaland and Tripura also faced landslides and heavy rain, affecting thousands and damaging homes. In Sikkim, three soldiers martyred in a military camp landslides.
