Mumbai Businessman, Family Robbed Of Cash, Jewellery & Foreign Currency Worth ₹7 Lakh At Knifepoint On Bandra-Jaipur Express
Mumbai: A 36-year-old businessman and his family were targeted in a daring robbery aboard the Bandra-Jaipur Express while returning home to Mumbai. The robbery, which occurred at knifepoint between Goregaon and Jogeshwari stations, resulted in the loss of valuables worth approximately Rs 7 lakh, including cash, jewellery and foreign currency.
The businessman’s wife and two children had boarded the train on Friday, with the businessman joining them later. On Saturday, as the train approached Malad station, a co-passenger advised the woman to move their luggage closer to the door in preparation for getting off. Trusting the suggestion, the couple shifted four trolley bags and a cardboard carton near the exit with the co-passenger’s help.
Shortly after, three other men approached and surrounded their belongings. Sensing something suspicious, the businessman questioned the group, asking if they intended to steal anything. To his shock, the seemingly helpful co-traveller pulled out a knife and threatened him, warning him to step aside if he valued his life.
Reacting swiftly, the businessman raised an alarm. His wife rushed to his side as he tackled the man with the knife. Amid the struggle, the train began slowing down between Goregaon and Jogeshwari. Taking advantage of the reduced speed, the co-traveller broke free and leapt from the moving train. Two of his accomplices followed suit, jumping from either side of the coach as the businessman and his wife attempted to restrain them.
Details On Lost Items
Despite the chaos, the couple managed to recover two of their bags from the fleeing thieves. However, one accomplice escaped into another coach. A preliminary estimate of the loss includes Rs 1.5 lakh in cash, a gold necklace, and 4,500 Saudi Riyals.
The couple reported the incident to the police, detailing the coordinated nature of the robbery and how the suspects used deception to gain their trust before striking. Cops have launched an investigation into the incident and are working to identify and apprehend the culprits, reviewing CCTV footage and checking for known offenders who may have been involved.
