Amritsar: 18-year-old kidnapped, gang-raped

In a shocking incident, an 18-year-old girl of Kamirpura border village was allegedly kidnapped by four youth and later gang-raped by them at Talwandi Madho in Jalandhar.

The incident occurred on May 29 though the Ajnala police registered a case in this connection only on June 2 following a strong protest by the family members accompanied by leaders of the Jamhoori Kisan Sabha.

Dr Satnam Singh Ajnala, a senior leader of Jamhoori Kishan Sabha (JKS), alleged that the accused were scot-free as they had political backing. SSP (Amritsar rural) Maninder Singh, however, said raids were on to nab the accused.

Among those booked in the case are Gurpreet Singh of Variah village in Bhindi Saidan, Gursharan Singh and his brother Jaskaran Singh of Kamirpura village and two of their unknown accomplices.

Dr Ajnala along with another prominent leader of Jamhoori Kisan Sabha, Rattan Singh Randhawa, accompanied the girl and her family, who gave the harrowing details of the incident.

The girl said she was going to her school when she was forcibly kidnapped by the accused, threatening that they had detained her father, and if she did not accompany them, they would kill him. She said she was taken to Talwandi Madho in Jalandhar where they took turns to rape her at a Chhann (temporary shade).
