Two killed, 4 injured as 3 cars collide at Chunni

Two persons died while four sustained injuries as three cars collided near the SYL canal at Chunni on the Chandigarh-Fatehgarh Sahib road here on Saturday evening.

The deceased were identified as Lakhwinder Singh resident of Chari village and Bhupinder Singh of Basian Baidwan village. They were driving two of the three cars involved in the mishap. Those injured were Lakhwinder Singh’s wife Gurpreet Kaur and their two sons Harshpreet and Sukhwinder Singh, and Abhishek Rai of Chandigarh.

Two cars had collided head-on, killing their drivers on the spot, while another hit one of these vehicles from the rear.

Harjit Singh, in-charge of Chunni police post, said preliminary investigation revealed that Lakhwinder Singh, along with his family, was going to Chandigarh from his village while Bhupinder Singh was going from his village towards Chunni. He said their cars collided head-on. Abhishek Rai, who was going from Chandigarh to Ludhiana in his car, could not apply brakes immediately and hit the car being driven by Bhupinder Singh.

The cop said the police reached the spot on getting information about the mishap and with the help of passersby dragged out those injured and rushed them to Indus Hospital at Pirjain village. He said the bodies were taken to the Civil Hospital, Fatehgarh Sahib, for a post-mortem examination.
