Justice Yashwant Varma Cash Haul Row: 3-Judge Panel Recommends Initiation Of Removal Proceedings Against Allahabad HC Judge

New Delhi: A three-judge panel submitted its report in the Justice Yashwant Varma cash haul row on Thursday. The panel recommended the initiation of removal proceedings against Justice Varma as there was enough evidence

Notably, Justice Varma is a sitting judge of the Allahabad High Court. For the unversed, during a probe into an accident fire at his official residence in Delhi, a large quantity of cash, including half-burnt notes, was recovered.

In the report accessed by NDTV, the panel said that there is enough proof to call for the removal of Justice Varma.

"This committee holds the money/cash was found in the storeroom located within the premises of 30 Tughlaq Crescent... officially occupied by Justice Varma," the panel said in its report as reported by the media house.

“Access to the storeroom was with Justice Varma and his family members, and (was) well-monitored without any outsiders getting access without permission,” the panel said in its report as quoted by NDTV.

When the cash was recovered, Justice Varma is Delhi High Court judge. Later, Justice Varma was tarnsfered to his parent Allahabad HC.

In March this year, after the fire was brought under control, firefighters recovered a huge pile of cash and official entries were being made. Senior police officials were informed about the accidental recovery.

Justice Varma was born on 6 January 1969 in Allahabad. He pursued the B.Com [Honours] degree course at Hansraj College Delhi University and was awarded the LLB degree by Rewa University in Madhya Pradesh. He was enrolled as an Advocate on 8 August 1992.

"As an advocate at the Allahabad High Court had a varied practice handling matters relating to constitutional, labour and industrial legislations, corporate laws, taxation and allied branches of law," the official website of the Delhi HC reads.

He was the Special Counsel for the Allahabad High Court from 2006 till elevation. He held the office of the Chief Standing Counsel for the State of Uttar Pradesh from 2012 till August 2013 when was designated as a Senior Advocate by the Court.

Justice Varma Was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Allahabad High Court on October 13, 2014. He took oath as a Permanent Judge of that Court on February 1, 2016. Justice Varma was appointed as a Judge of the High Court of Delhi on October 11, 2021.
