International Yoga Day celebrated across J&K

The 11th International Day of Yoga was observed across the Kashmir region on Saturday, with wide participation and official backing.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha led celebrations as per the Common Yoga Protocol. A spokesperson said the L-G said in today’s fast-paced world, the importance of yoga is immeasurable.

“Yoga reduces stress and improves life quality. This year’s theme, ‘Yoga for One Earth, One Health,’ underlines Yoga’s role in holistic well-being and societal harmony,” he said, encouraging people to adopt uoga in their routines.

Events were held across the Valley with Jammu and Kashmir’s Health and Medical Education Minister, Sakeena Itoo, leading the Yoga Day celebrations at Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar.

Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, various administrative ecretaries, heads of departments, senior officers of the Health Department, locals and large number of students were also present on the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, Itoo emphasised on the significance of yoga as a tool for physical, mental and emotional well-being.

“I believe that if every day a person performs yoga for even half an hour, nothing is more than this for health”, the minister said. She added that yoga has become far more important because of rising lifestyle-related problems.

While reflecting on this year’s theme of International Yoga Day; ‘Yoga for One Earth, One Health’, Minister Sakeena said yoga is not merely a form of exercise but it is a bridge to inner peace and collective harmony.

She said the menace of drug abuse can also be tackled through yoga.

On the occasion, the minister also lauded the health, education and Ayush departments for organising various programmes across Jammu and Kashmir to mark International Yoga Day celebrations.

The Kashmir BSF celebrated Yoga Day at BSF Humhama campus, a spokesperson said.

BSF, Kashmir, was also organised yoga events at border out posts. The session witnessed a large turnout, including officers, jawans, women personnel, and trainees, who gathered early in the morning.

The collective participation highlighted the importance of incorporating yoga into daily routine for physical fitness, mental clarity, and emotional balance, the spokesperson said.

The celebration concluded with a pledge to continue practising yoga regularly and spreading its benefits across communities.

Railway Police wing of the Jammu and Kashmir Police organised special yoga sessions at all railway stations across the Valley.
