VIDEO | Man thrashed for refusing to exchange seats with BJP MLA? CCTV footage goes viral

CCTV footage of the man who refused to give up his seat for BJP MLA Rajeev Singh on the New Delhi-Bhopal Vande Bharat Express (for which he got beaten by a group of people) has gone viral on social media.

Raj Prakash, 50, had alleged that he was assaulted at the Jhansi railway station in Uttar Pradesh after the MLA on Thursday had asked him to give up his seat so that he could sit with his family.

After the MLA had gotten off at the station, a group of 7-8 people—speculated to be his supporters—entered the train compartment where the man was seated and thrashed him.

A video now being circulated across social media shows that some even used slippers to beat the man. Another video that was released earlier by the Trinamool Congress on Instagram shows the man bleeding from the nose, and his shirt soaked in blood.

According to the Government Railway Police in Jhansi, a non-cognizable report (NCR) has been registered after Singh filed a complaint in Jhansi. Prakash has also lodged a complaint in Bhopal about the incident.

Singh had apparently gotten a seat in the back of the compartment while his wife and son were seated in the front. He had gone to the man to ask him to switch seats, when he noticed two men seated next to his family were sitting in an objectionable manner. According to the complaints filed by Singh, the man had refused to move, and used inappropriate language.

In Prakash’s complaint, he alleges that after an argument broke out between him and Singh, a group of men linked to the MLA entered and assaulted him.

Singh, however, denies being involved in the assault, and said that he had de-boarded the train before it happened. Vipul Kumar Srivastava, Railway Superintendent of Police (Jhansi), has said that the incident occurred due to a dispute over seating in the train.
