Natkhat Utsav celebrates budding artistes of Delhi

The Delhi Government’s annual cultural extravaganza, Natkhat Utsav, commenced on Monday at the All-India Fine Arts and Crafts Society (AIFACS), bringing to the fore the vibrant artistic expression of students from government schools.

Organised by the Sahitya Kala Parishad in collaboration with the Directorate of Education and the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), the festival will run till June 26.

Minister for Art, Culture and Languages Kapil Mishra inaugurated the event, and lauded the initiative for providing a meaningful platform to budding young artistes.

“With Natkhat Utsav, Delhi is brimming with the colourful imagination, energy, and creativity of children today,” he said, noting that the festival had grown into a celebration of the city’s emerging artistic voices.

The festival marks the culmination of summer art workshops conducted in 44 Delhi Government schools, where over 2,000 students received hands-on training in music, dance, theatre, and fine arts. Specialised centres — 11 each for the four disciplines — offered focused mentorship to the participants. More than 550 student-made artworks were submitted, and the best among them are now on display at a public exhibition.

The festival also features live presentations in music, dance, and theatre by selected student performers. From classical to contemporary forms, the performances showcase India’s rich artistic traditions, interpreted through youthful imagination.

“Natkhat Utsav is not merely a culmination of workshops but a celebration of expression and collective creativity,” said Vineet Paliwal, Programme Officer at Sahitya Kala Parishad. “Each year, it becomes a journey of discovery and joy for students, their mentors, and the audience.”

The art exhibition, open to the public from June 24 to 26 between 11 am and 7 pm, includes student paintings, crafts, and a curated photographic showcase documenting workshop highlights.

A special souvenir commemorating the 2025 edition of the festival was also released.
