Indore (Madhya Pradesh): MP Shankar Lalwani met Railway Board chairman (CRB) Satish Kumar at the city railway station on Tuesday and discussed the doubling of Indore-Ujjain section via Fatehabad.

Later, Lalwani informed that there was an in principal consensus on doubling the railway line from Indore to Ujjain via Fatehabad and it was likely to get final approval from the Railway Board soon. The project would further improve the railway connectivity of Malwa region.

Also, a survey would be conducted for the doubling of Mhow-Khandwa section.

Lalwani said that a tender would be floated for conducting the survey of the doubling of the under-construction Mhow-Khandwa gauge conversion work. This would provide a great convenience to the passenger and freight transport towards south India.

Lalwani said that he had requested CRB Kumar that in view of Simhastha 2028, the redevelopment work of Indore railway station should be expedited and the target should be set to complete it before the Simhastha Fair.

Platform numbers 5 and 6 of the city railway station would be equipped with modern facilities. Also, the pit line would be shifted from here to Laxmibai Nagar station, which would reduce the traffic pressure on the main station.

Considering Shastri Bridge as a major bottleneck for the further development of the train facilities, a proposal for its construction would be prepared and sent to the Railway Board, he said.
