Delhi’s National Zoological Park is set to collaborate with Anant Ambani’s animal welfare organisation Vantara to enhance animal care, staff training and modernise the overall management. The revamp aims to support animal care through share resources, modern facilities and scientific expertise as officials said in a statement.
“This initiative aims to strengthen the zoo’s operations and transform it into a more meaningful and enriching experience for the people of Delhi,” Vantara CEO Vivaan Karani said.

However, the collaboration has drawn criticism from the section of some quarters, pointing out that the partnership could lead to privatisation. However, a statement from Anant Ambani’s organisation Vantara has clarified that it wouldn’t hold any ownership and would just strictly focus on the zoological park’s growth.
“It reflects a forward-thinking move by the Delhi government to bring in specialised expertise in zoology and animal welfare, fields that require dedicated, trained professionals,” Karani said.
Delhi’s zoo staff will undergo a proper staff training to enhance their technical skills in animal care. “Along with giving protected spaces to the animals, Vantara’s goal is to upskill the zoo workers and make them specialists in the field of animal welfare,” the organisation said.
The collaboration will also provide knowledge-sharing programmes, veterinary care and visitor engagement between the two organisations. “As part of this collaboration, we will make new and well-equipped enclosed spaces for animals and ensure they have a safe, more enriching environment that supports their physical and emotional well-being,” Karani said. Through this collaboration, Vantara envisions to see India as a global leader in animal conversation, the organisation said.
