John Abraham and Abhishek Sharma reunite for superhero movie 'Munkeeman'

After the acclaim and success of Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran, John Abraham will once again be teaming up with director Abhishek Sharma for Munkeeman, a big budget superhero franchise that will showcase Abraham in a striking new avatar.
Not much is known about the production, except that it is reportedly a high-octane, big-scale superhero action film, with a twist. While the details are tightly under wraps, sources close to the production have disclosed in a statement to Bollywood Hungama that, “John and all the stakeholders of this project are extremely excited for it as nothing of this sort has been seen in Indian cinema before. It is mounted as an ambitious big budget film meant for a grand theatrical experience.” The sources have also mentioned that the film is expected to go on floors in early 2026.
The film will be produced by Mahaveer Jain, who is also currently backing Naagzilla, a creature-comedy starring Karthik Aryan, and directed by Fukrey filmmaker Mrighdeep Singh Lamba.
Munkeeman is based on the book of the same name, written by none other than Abhishek Sharma himself. Published in 2012, the book is heavily inspired by the Monkey Man incident that occurred in the year 2001. The synopsis of the book is described as: “In the summer of 2001 a strange creature created panic and chaos in the city of Delhi. No one had an explanation or clue about his true identity… Then suddenly one day he vanished, never to return…until today! Munkeeman is back. And he wants you to know that he is not a monster, but India’s own authentic superhero.”
Currently, John Abraham is filming for Rohit Shetty’s upcoming biopic on Rakesh Maria, the former Mumbai Police Commissioner, and awaiting the release of his next action-thriller, Tehran, co-starring former Miss World, Manushi Chhillar.
As for director Abhishek Sharma, he is presently working on the sequel to the 2005 hit comedy Garam Masala.
